This is a photographic commentary on the occidental History of Painting as written in books and exhibited in museums.

As a photographer, I use a medium that has always had a complex relationship with painting, a relationship that I like to put in a mise en abîme in the realization of this project.
As an art historian, I wish to question the very writing of such a history, the choice of its masters, of its patrons, of its iconography and dogmas.

In the first step of my work, I decided to limit the scope of my analysis to academic painting and its genres. This initial body of work consists of five images, or histories, relating respectively to the genre of the history painting, the portrait, the nude, the still life and the landscape.
The method of analysis varies for each image created according to whether the commentary is positioned on the socio-political context, on the iconography, on the school or the technique of a great master.

The purpose of this project is to realise five photographs in order to exhibit them in the context of a nineteenth century museum, the century of historicism, by reconstructing an exhibition room and an accrochage in the style XIX (red walls, high black plinth, skylight) inside a contemporary space.

Un commentaire photographique sur l’Histoire de la Peinture occidentale telle qu’elle est écrite dans les grands livres et exposées dans les musées.

En tant que photographe, j’utilise un médium qui entretient depuis toujours un rapport complexe avec la peinture, rapport qu’il me plait de mettre en abîme dans la réalisation de ce projet.
En tant qu’historienne de l’art, je désire questionner l’écriture même de cette histoire, du choix de ses maîtres, de ses patrons, de son iconographie, de ses dogmes.

Dans un premier temps, j’ai choisi de limiter le champs de mon analyse à la peinture académique et à ses genres. C’est pourquoi
je désire réaliser cinq photographies, ou histoires, traitant respectivement de la peinture d’histoire, du portrait, du nu, de la nature morte et du paysage.
La démarche analytique varie pour chaque photographie selon que le commentaire se place sur le contexte social ou politique, sur l’iconographie pure, sur une école ou la technique d’un grand maître.

Le but de ce projet est de réaliser ces cinq photographies et de les exposer dans le contexte d’un musée du XIXe, siècle de l’historicisme, en reconstituant une salle d’exposition et un accrochage dans le style XIXe (mur rouge, haute plinthe noire, verrière)
à l’intérieur d’un lieu d’exposition contemporain.
